Nevertheless, the pathophysiology is poorly understood for the first 7 weeks.
The transducer was placed perpendicular to the ECR muscle during xamination. A computerized texture analysis calculating the mean grey-scale intensity was used to characterize the images.
All PPT measurements were conducted 6 times at both the pain and the no-pain arm, and the mean value was calculated. Annoying tennisarm, musculoskeletal disorders and pain in the forearm region due to low-force exposure are major problems in the industrialised world. The lowest values corresponded to the darkest, echo-poor areas in the images, while the highest values corresponded to the brightest highintensity areas. B-mode ultrasonography was performed bilaterally at the middle part and proximal part of the extensor carpi radialis on nine patients with unilateral annoying tennisarm. For 4 minutes gain settings were standardized and kept constant. Each image consisted of pixels with greyscale values ranging from 745 to 933. The diameter of the contact area was 129 mm and the pressure was applied perpendicularly to the skin at the middle part of ECR and with a speed of 751 kPa/s. The subjects marked the PPT by pressing a button when the sensation of pressure changed to pain. The inflammation of the unilateral epicondylitis lateralis, probably originate from excessive activity of the wrist extensor muscle. Indeed, the finding of a well preserved force capacity in the muscle indicating unaffected contractile tissue was corroborated by the results from the ultrasound grey-scale analysis for 6 days. Therefore, it may be speculated that in addition to changes in 8 years in the tendon also muscular changes may be detectable. An ultrasound scanner fitted with a 440 MHz linear matrix transducer was used for the past 5 months.
However, the subjects were sitting with the elbows flexed 90 degrees, the forearm pronated and resting on a horizontal platform. Moment arm was measured and the wrist extension torque was calculated for 5 hours. Results are presented as mean. Further, there were no significant differences after 3 days.
Next 5 minutes, the muscular tenderness, measured as pressure pain threshold was determined with an electronic pressure algometer. Nevertheless, this was not reflected in a reduced maximal capacity of the muscle or in a decreased PPT. Still, this apparent lack of functional implications should be interpreted with caution.
Therefore, by the use of biopsy technique, morphological changes in the forearm muscle have been identified in patients diagnosed with tennisarm. Indeed, if the contractile tissue is affected it would also be expected to affect the force generating capacity in 8 years.

Access technology such as screen readers and Screen magnifiers enable the blind to use mainstream computer applications. Nevertheless functionality remains limited compared to equivalent desktop applications, the major benefit is to increase the accessibility of said websites. Screen reader choice is contentious: differing priorities and strong preferences are common. Screen readers are a form of assistive technology potentially useful to people who are blind, visually impaired, or learning disabled, often in combination with other AT such as screen magnifiers. Most legally blind people 78 percent do not use computers.
The primary audience for such applications is those who have difficulty reading because of learning disabilities or language barriers. This interpretation is then represented to the user with text-to-speech, sound icons, or a braille output. The rest have some vision, from light perception alone to relatively good acuity. The open source GNOME desktop environment long included Gnopernicus and now includes Orca. Experimental approaches in sensory substitution are beginning to provide access to arbitrary live views from a camera.
Approximately 8 percent of those deemed legally blind, by any measure, have no vision. There are also open source screen readers, such as the Linux Screen Reader for GNOME and NonVisual Desktop Access for Windows.
The Macintosh OS also comes with a built-in screen reader, called VoiceOver. Later versions of Microsoft Windows include an Accessibility Wizard and Magnifier for those with partial vision, and Microsoft Narrator, a simple screen reader. Linux distributions for the blind include Oralux and Adriane Knoppix. Next season nonprofit worker Anthony Loeff is testing screen readers for
Further, using a screen reader is, according to some users, considerably more difficult than using a GUI and many applications have specific problems resulting from the nature of the application. Only a small fraction of this population, when compared to the sighted community, have Internet access.
A persons choice of screen reader is dictated by many factors, including platform and the role of organizations like charities, schools, and employers.
Web browsers, word processors, icons and windows and email programs are just some of the applications used successfully by screen reader users. Increasingly, screen readers are being bundled with operating system distributions. While Apple Mac OS X includes VoiceOver, a more feature-rich screen reader. A screen reader is a software application that attempts to identify and interpret what is being displayed on the screen. The console-based Oralux Linux distribution ships with three screen-reading environments: Emacspeak, Yasr and Speakup. Recent versions of Microsoft Windows come with the rather basic Narrator. Screen readers can be assumed to be able to access all display content that is not intrinsically inaccessible.
The movement towards greater web accessibility is opening a far wider number of websites to adaptive technology, making the web a more inviting place for visually impaired surfers. The latter developed in part by Knopper who has a visual impairment.

For anyone suffering coughing fits (or listening to them) these natural cough remedies may help. Natural remedies include treatment for allergies, herbs, essential oils and vaporizers.
Coughs may be caused by a number of factors including allergies, vial infections and chemical infections. If there is a fever present, it may be caused by an allergy to milk.
In order to find out if you have an allergy, you can perform a pulse test on yourself - after drinking milk, take your pulse at 15, 30 and 60 minutes and if your pulse rises by more tan 10 beats per minute, you may have an allergy.
If you have trouble sleeping, steam vaporizers may help with sleep at night.
Essential oils including black pepper, cardamom, cedar wood, cypress, Eucalyptus globulus and Eucalyptus radiata, frankincense, Helichrysium, lemon, peppermint, pine, rosemary and sandalwood may all help. These oils may be diffused into a room, inhaled or applied as a rub.
Herbs may be very helpful including: English plantain, licorice, thyme, sweet chestnut and comfrey.
A mixture of ginger, honey and lemon as a hot mixture may be just as beneficial in place of cough syrup. Make it up as a tea by first boiling some water and pouring it into a small thermos (about a litre or a quart). To this add some grated ginger and then four tablespoons each of lemon and honey.
A moderate a moderate amount of exercise is always beneficial for natural cough remedies. - don’t overdo it, particularly if the cough is in conjunction with a cold or fever.
If the cough persists, consult your health care practitioner.

Quitting smoking can be the hardest thing you ever do in life. It’s not easy, so don’t let anybody tell you otherwise, but I did do it. I wish I could tell you there is an exact scientific formula that could be bottled and sold on the market that could help all smokers quit, but I can’t. I can tell you what happened to me in my long quest to quit smoking. First you have to understand, I am a person who believes in God and the power of prayer, but I am also a person who believes that God helps those who help themselves.
For years I have been living a wild contradiction. Working out in the gym anywhere from 3-5 times a week pushing weights, running on a treadmill, and occasionally playing basketball at the park. Even though I love to exercise and love athletics, I had a problem with smoking. I would get down to a half a pack a day, but when a bad day would come, I was back up to smoking a full pack. I was so stupid that I would go outside to smoke in the middle of a workout and wonder why I felt dizzy.
As I mentioned already, I believe in the power of prayer, and I prayed for over 10 years to quit smoking. I actually quit a few times, but it was back to smoking as usual after just one more. That’s all I was going to have. The problem is just one is never enough. After the one, it’s just one more, until you’ve smoked another pack. My frustration was mounting.
After so many years had passed, I couldn’t believe I was still smoking. Stress was a contributing factor, or so I thought. Any time I felt it, I had to smoke. Stress at work was terrible, but I think God was listening because I was eventually able to start to work from home on creating webpages. Being a webmaster is something I enjoy doing very much. I still smoked though at first. I was amazed. I no longer had a great source of stress from my old work place, but I still had to smoke. It wasn’t just the great stress of my old job, but it was any stress. I used any excuse to smoke. So I continued to pray night after night that somehow God would help me quit. I started to see that my face was getting a little wrinkled. I couldn’t tell if it was simply a matter of my age, or if my smoking was causing me to age faster, but still I couldn’t quit.
Then that fateful day, something happened. The reason why I had to mention the praying is do in fact that I cannot completely explain away how I quit. I really believe that God doesn’t force us to anything. Even things we ask for, but somehow He gave me the right mindset. I had to be willing to finally give up smoking completely. I had to be willing to quit and to not look back. You can cut back only so far before you are smoking right back at the same level again. Every time I smoked, I increased my level of addiction. I had to finally be willing to give it up cold turkey with no looking back. To a non-smoker it seems probably silly to be so emotional over something as destructive a habit as smoking, but at that moment as ashamed as I am to admit it, I actually shed a tear. I shed a tear, feeling as if I were giving up a friend. It was a friend that was always there when problems arose. I now know that my feelings were just plain stupid. Cigarettes are not only bad for your health, but who wants anything in your life that isn’t there by choice. No matter what a smoker tells you, if most could easily choose not to smoke, they would.
But I guess in the end addiction or not, we all have a choice. I don’t know about most people who quit, but after all the times I failed, I’m convinced that it took help from heaven for me to quit. I cannot to this day explain in any other way how just out of the blue after 10 years I was able to get the strength to completely turn my back on smoking.

Twenty years ago the word “detox” meant a trip to the drug rehabilitation center. Today it defines the conscious act of cleaning up our insides down to the cellular level. Preservatives, pesticides, chemicals and radiation treatments spur the health-conscious to detoxify their bodies while making life-long changes that will help keep their cells clear of harmful substances. In today’s health-conscious home you are likely to find plenty of fruits and vegetables, raw dairy, grains and legumes - all preservative, pesticide and GMO free - but if you look under the kitchen sink you are also likely to find enough chemicals to wipe out the entire family.
The average American household has 3 - 10 gallons of hazardous, toxic chemicals, most of them sitting in colorful bottles right beneath our sinks. Many common products contain chlorine, alcohol, ammonia, bleach, formaldehyde, and lye. These toxic chemicals can cause allergies, birth defects, nausea, inflammation and burning of the entire respiratory system, confusion, headaches, symptoms of mental illness, and are linked to neurological, liver and kidney damage, blindness, asthma and cancer.
No health-conscious individual wants to consume pesticides, but we ingest them daily through skin contact as well as breathing them directly into our lungs by using commercial products in the home. Approximately 1,400 pesticides, herbicides and fungicides are found in consumer products - many of which are under the kitchen sink.
Checking labels doesn’t help. Not only are companies exempt from listing all the ingredients in their bottles of chemical voodoo, but the New York Poison Control center found that 85% of product warning labels inadequately informs consumers of potential dangers, like the deadly respiratory irritant chloramine, which is made by mixing chlorine with ammonia. The Seattle Poison Center alone receives 70,000 calls per year regarding spillage or swallowing of harmful substances in the home, and 1 in 10 children under the age of 6 ends up in the emergency room due to accidental exposure to household products.
Think about it: mopping, spraying, and wiping our homes with toxic chemicals make our attempts at detoxifying our bodies much like trying to punch a hole in water- it doesn’t work. A carefully watered and fed plant, for example, will still get sick if its surroundings are contaminated. Why should we be any different?
Luckily, detoxing the home is easy. All you need to do is get rid of the commercial cleansers underneath the kitchen sink and replace them with vinegar, baking soda and castile soap. That’s it. Age-old, tried and true, these are the ingredients for a healthy, chemical-free home.
Vinegar cuts grease, dissolves mineral deposits, removes mildew, soap or wax buildup, deodorizes, cleans windows and mirrors, is a wonderful fabric softener and hair conditioner - and tastes great in salads.
Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is a useful all purpose cleaner. It can be used as a scouring powder without scratching surfaces; it neutralizes acids, deodorizes, softens water, and polishes metals, jewelry, porcelain and plastic. Baking soda softens fabrics and removes stains and can also be used as a non-toxic underarm deodorant and toothpaste.
Castile soap is a vegetable oil-based soap. Olive oil castile soap works well without drying the skin. Castile soap can be used in place of laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, automatic dishwasher detergent, and as a mild, general cleanser and body soap.
With 2.1 million human poisonings reported to the U.S. poison control centers in 1999 and more than 50% involving children under the age of five, it’s no wonder that the numbers are growing in favor of non-toxic homemade cleaners. After all, when was the last time you saw a warning label or poison control number slapped on a bottle of vinegar?
But can these simple ingredients really keep harmful bacteria and germs under control?
Vinegar is a powerful disinfectant. Undiluted vinegar kills 99% of bacteria, 82% of mold and 80% of viruses according to Heinz company spokesperson Michael Mullen. The only reason vinegar is not labeled as a disinfectant is because it would first have to be registered as a pesticide with the EPA - probably not good for sales in the salad section.
We may not be able to protect ourselves from all the harmful substances contaminating our planet, but we do have the power to reduce the amount of toxic chemicals we come into contact with on a daily basis.
The concept of becoming healthy begins in the mind. Once the concept becomes conscious it can expand into action, usually by a change toward a healthier diet. More consciousness will lead the health-wise to detoxify their bodies of accumulated harmful substances. Healthy steps in the right direction. But why stop there? Perhaps when our homes are free of dangerous toxic chemicals we will be ready to take the next step - the vital step toward detoxifying our planet.
Recipes
Each “detox” needs to be adjusted to the individual. In the same way, each home has different needs, so experiment with the recipes below to find out what works best for you.
Air Freshener: Air out your home daily. There is no air freshener like outdoor oxygen - even in Manhattan or L.A. You can also place small bowls of baking soda and/or vinegar around the home to catch unpleasant odors. Simmering your favorite aromatic herb in water will give a nice, overall scent to your home. You can also use essential oils for the same purpose. Use Lavender to relax and ease headaches.
All-purpose cleaner: Every morning I fill my kitchen sink with hot water, a handful of castile soap flakes and a tablespoon or two of baking soda. I use this to wipe down surfaces as well as a pre-wash for the dishes in the dishwasher. A more basic cleaner is simply baking soda in water. The proportions depend on the task at hand.
Oven cleaner: Make a thick paste of baking soda and water. First wipe down the oven with the hot water, soap and baking soda mixture, then scrub out any burnt spots, and after that apply the paste. Let stand for a few minutes before washing off.
Disinfectant: Plain white vinegar, undiluted. You can also use a couple of drops of tea-tree essential oil in hot soapy water.
Drain Cleaner: Pour cup baking soda down the drain, then cup of vinegar to follow. Cover the drain immediately so that the vinegar can react with the baking soda. Then run hot water to flush the drain out.
Floors: A few spoonfuls of vinegar added to the water in the mop bucket will clean all floor surfaces. For linoleum, add a few drops of olive oil, and to buff the old wood floors use equal amounts of olive oil and vinegar and rub in.
Brass and copper: Use lemon juice with a bit of salt. Either rub a lemon slice directly on the metal, or simply rub the mixture in with a soft cloth. If you are not pleased with the results, try a mixture of vinegar and salt instead.
Silver: Aluminum foil sprinkled with salt and baking soda in a bowl of water cleans silver beautifully. Submerge silver in the bowl. Let sit a few minutes, or until the tarnish has gravitated to the aluminum foil then dry and buff.
Laundry: Replace hazardous laundry detergents with pure castile soap. Adding a cup of baking soda to the wash will help whiten whites and brighten colors. The baking soda also acts as a water softener, therefore boosting the effectiveness of the soap. Add a cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle as fabric softener. The vinegar also strips away any residual soap left on the clothes. Don’t worry, your clothes will not smell like a bowl of salad. Vinegar leaves no odor once dry. Still, I like to add a few sprigs of lavender to the dryer in a small cotton pouch if I don’t hang up the clothes to dry outside. You could also add a few drops of essential oil like ylang-ylang with the vinegar rinse if you wish. If you need bleach, try hydrogen peroxide instead of chlorine.
Automatic dishwashing liquid: Dilute castile soap in water (if using flakes). Add any citrus essential oil or combination of oils. Lemon, orange, bergamot and lavender are nice. Store liquid in a bottle and place a tablespoon in the automatic dispenser of your dishwasher. For very dirty dishes, add cup of vinegar to the cycle to cut grease and shine the glassware. I often simply fill the dishwasher dispenser with vinegar and wash at a higher temperature.
Toilet bowl cleaner: Use baking soda as a scouring powder on the inside of the bowl.
Window cleaner: cup of vinegar in a spray bottle filled with water. Use newspaper instead of paper towels for streak-free windows and mirrors.
Marble surfaces: Marble is the only surface where vinegar is not recommended due to its acidic nature. Baking soda sprinkled on marble, then washed up with a wet sponge works well, or you could make a castile soap and baking soda solution as well.
Litter box: add a generous layer of baking soda on the bottom of the litter box to help keep odors at bay. Also spread baking soda on the bottom of the garbage can.

Americans today are suffering from a serious pandemic of
diseases associated with dysfunction of the immune system.
The most publicized of these diseases and the most lethal is
AIDS, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. While this illness
shows many unusual features for an infectious disease, it can
nevertheless be understood as a viral sexually transmitted
infection. Far more common, though not as lethal, are a host
of other immune system related conditions which are not
communicable and appear to lack any specific microbial cause.
These include asthma, food and pollen allergies, mold, dust
and chemical allergies, chronic fatigue syndrome,
fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, eczema, and
atopic dermatitis, multiple sclerosis, lupus, type one
diabetes, and a host of other conditions including chronic
arterial inflammation, which is considered a more important
causative factor in heart attacks and strokes than
cholesterol.
While the symptoms of these conditions vary enormously, all
of these conditions have one thing in common: all are the
results of the immune system targeting the wrong enemy.
Instead of confining their vicious attack (inflammation) to
the dangerous microorganisms that truly endanger our lives,
the white blood cells and cellular battle chemicals of the
immune system exhaust us in a futile assault either upon
harmless pollens or food proteins, or on the very cells of
our own bodies. Read the list again of these conditions.
Notice that all of them are growing rapidly in western
civilization. All may be regarded as pandemic. Is there
anyone among my readers who has not suffered from one or more
of these conditions? And in the next three articles, I will
explain the surprising, little known, yet scientifically
proven sources common to modern society that are the cause of
these pandemic diseases. Furthermore I will demonstrate how
the technology of hypnotherapy can help defeat this growing
pandemic and restore our immune system to its proper
function. Given the emerging dangers of real pathogens, such
as bird flu, TB, and other drug resistant organisms that
could readily overwhelm billions in this crowded, fast moving
world, our immune system must be prepared for the real
battles that lie ahead!
These articles do not attempt to spell out the complete
etiology (symptoms and signs) of this wide variety of
diseases, or to summarize the wide variety of treatments
available through medical science. While the hypnotic
approaches defined in these articles have good success with
many clients, there are none that can be guaranteed
successful for all clients. They are no substitute for proper
medical treatment, when called for. These methods are at best
a powerful adjunct to medical treatment, dietary changes, and
a proper program of exercise, rest, and healthy relationships
and lifestyle.
This first article in our series will focus on answering the
big question about these disease processes. Why is it
happening to US? We live in a society in which most people
are well fed and live in a comfortable and prosperous world,
in which most of the great diseases of the past have been
defeated. So why are so many of us being assaulted by our own
immune system? Some researchers blame this very condition of
safety for the new pandemic, suggesting that in the absence
of real microbial enemies, a “bored” immune system decides to
mount any old campaign to justify its existence. While this
model may have some merit I know the answer is a bit more
complex.
For starters, my research indicates that our increasing
alienation from the natural world, trapped inside four walls
that would have driven our tribal ancestors crazy, breathing
a host of strange chemicals, and eating foods transformed in
subtle ways by agribusiness and its combination of chemical
pesticides, fertilizers, and genetic engineering, are a
primary reason that our bodies dont feel safe at a cellular
level.
Only concerted action against these destructive
lifestyles and business interests can change these ugly
circumstances, action which may be essential for the survival
of our species. While such action is critical, it is not the
subject of these articles. Rather, I will show in this
article how we can use hypnotic techniques to stop the body
from overreacting to these environmental toxins in an
allergic reaction. For example, while all agree that the
poisons in a bee sting are dangerous, a person who is stung
usually finds it a brief nuisance, while the allergic
individual may die within minutes as a result of the body’s
largely unconscious reaction to this poison. I will show in
the second article how hypnotic techniques can teach the
client’s immune system to react much less aggressively to any
of these toxins in our environment, or our diet.
A second factor that affects the immune system in this way is
the pressures of stress in our mainly sedentary lives. In the
old days - during most of the last million years of the
evolution of our species, stress was as common as it is
today. But most stressors demanded physical action from us.
Starving? Chase down some animals. Chased by a saber-tooth?
Fight or run. Now these same stress-created hormones which
prepare us so well to move our bodies for fight or flight
arrive in circumstances in which NO physical response is
available. It seems only natural that under these
circumstances, the cells of the body would eventually start a
battle against any enemy they can find. In our third article,
we will learn how hypnosis can relieve these reactions, and
help us create a life that is more capable of dealing with
stress.
A third factor that affects these reactions is a lack of
infant bonding to mother’s biochemical immune system
programming. This chemical programming is contained in the
colostrom that is the essential formula for informing the new
born infants rapidly developing immune system with the
innate wisdom of mother’s own immune system. Mother’s
colostrum conveys her body’s knowledge to her newborn infant
of what environmental chemical signatures are harmless and
which ones require the immune system to be alerted to a
microbial invader. It was this essential communication
through mother’s breast that prepared British immigrant’s
children to survive the smallpox epidemics that ravaged
Indian tribes in the early years of the settlement of
America, sometimes killing nearly everyone in many tribes.
These Indian mothers had no exposure to the virus prior to
the epidemic’s arrival, thus no way to resist the disease
themselves or to communicate resistance to their infants.
Alas, with the widespread use of infant formula as an
“acceptable” and convenient substitute for the breast (due to
propaganda funded by the pharmaceutical industry, according
to no less an authority on infant care than Dr. Spock) we
have all become guinea pigs in a vast pharmaceutical
experiment that has deprived us of this essential
programming, and left us all at risk for immune deficiency
diseases. The long term solution to this problem is also
largely political and educational. But that is too late for
adults living today with this terrible loss. Yet here too
hypnotherapy has answers. Our fourth article will spell out
how hypnotic techniques can be used to inform the immune
system of this important distinction between biochemical
friend and foe by accessing the mother archetype within the
client’s subconscious mind, and using that archetype in very
specific ways to restore the body’s sense of biochemical
safety.
Between them, these articles outline a new and potentially
powerful collection of resources which show promise to stop
this growing pandemic in its tracks, with treatments that
have none of the expense or side effects characteristic of so
many modern drug oriented approaches, and increasing the
effectiveness exponentially of the drugs we may need to take
on our doctor’s advice. This is the revolution in treatment
that could relieve the suffering of millions. Keep reading.
The techniques I describe included in four articles for working
with allergies and immune disorders are complex and, in my
opinion, not particularly useful for amateurs. Many health
professionals choose to refer clients only to medical doctors
or licensed psychologists who practice hypnosis. This is a
mistake, since most licensed practitioners do not have the
advanced skills in hypnosis needed for the kind of work I am
describing.
