Going Local Online: Job Seekers Find Work via the Internet

We didn’t see the recession coming, but here it is, and and the economy has gradually been forced to a halt. You may even be recently unemployed. You can turn off the TV, but you can’t get away from the fact of life that the UK is in a recession and it will be with us for a good few years yet.
So what to do? The orthodox ways of looking for a job are not so good when you have 110 other job seekers applying for the same position. Reading the newspaper, browsing the dole office, etc - good luck with that.
It’s much better to be proactive in places your competitors (the unemployed) are in fewer numbers. Nowadays a lot of companies display job vacancies on their company website, so use a search engine and enter key words to target local firms. Use a variety of key words between location only e.g. jobs in Tamworth, and location and job type e.g. help desk jobs Tamworth.
One more alternative is to work for yourself - become self-employed. What we’ve discovered over the last year is that big corporates can go broke overnight. Being self-employed puts destiny in your own hands, which is something no employee of a company can ever say they have. An important point is that you choose the kind of career you love as you must motivate yourself everyday.
